Obituary For Patricia "Patti" Lynn Wilson

After a brief battle with cancer, Pattricia “Patti” Lynn Wilson, 73, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, at home in Bellingham, WA. She fought her illness graciously, with the same positivity and humor with which she lived her life. She was lovingly surrounded in her final moments by family and friends. Her two sons Ryan and Mike were by her side until the very end.

Born October 21, 1952, on Whidby Island, WA, Patti was raised in the Mutiny Bay area just outside of Freeland. As the middle child and only girl among four brothers, she frequently took on household responsibilities from a young age: loving and caring for her siblings dearly. After graduating from Langley High School, She briefly attended Western Washington University, when she met her husband Raymond “Ray” Wilson who was from Bellingham. Patti and Ray were married in 1974 and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary just months before his passing from dementia on June 30, 2024. Patti and Ray welcomed two boys only 18 months apart in 1975 and 1976. In 1977 they completed construction on the house where they raised their family and where she lived for the remainder of her life.

Patti was a homemaker while her sons were young. As the boys grew up she worked as a clerk at Yew Street Groceries, then as a property manager for Sycamore Corporation. She eventually put a large amount of her time and effort into volunteer work. She was heavily involved with the VFW where she undertook a long project writing a book about the history of a local chapter. Pattie also volunteered significantly with Dementia Support Northwest / Amy’s Place where she served up until the very end.

Patti was a multi-talented artist who could turn the mundane into something magical. She brought whimsy into her work as an avid painter, woodworker, stained glass maker, quilter, and more. Her creations brought happiness to the faces of many: the small reindeer figurines which she sold at craft fairs in the 1980s; the numerous quilts she donated to patients hospitalized with AIDS during the 1990s; and especially through the fairy gardens and play spaces she meticulously created for her four grandchildren in the 2000s and beyond. She selflessly strived to use her creative talents to bring joy and delight to others.

Yet, more than all of this, she was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter and friend. Her light and zest for life will be greatly missed. She is preceded in death by her parents Patricia and James Thompson, her brothers Larry and Jimmy Thompson, and her husband Ray Wilson. She is survived by her brothers Randy and Mike Thompson, her sons Ryan (Carley) Wilson of Bellingham, WA, and Mike (Heather) Wilson of Winston-Salem, NC, and her four grandchildren Anna Wilson, Cole WIlson, Ellie Wilson and Jack Wilson.
