Obituary For Betty Ann Feenstra

Betty Ann Feenstra, age 80, passed away peacefully on May 21st, 2026 in Lynden, Washington.

Born on March 10th , 1946, in Seattle, Washington, Betty lived a life rooted in faith, family, adventure, and meaningful connection with those around her. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard "Dick" Feenstra; her mother, Fern Caroline Starnes; her father, Norman Sylvester Northrop; and her sister, Sandra Mathes.

Betty is survived by her sister, Lynn Bird of Ingleside, Texas; her three sons, Steve Feenstra, Hank Feenstra, and Pete Feenstra; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; Uncle Hank, Jennie and John DeKubber, many extended family members and dear friends who loved her deeply.

Betty graduated from Western Washington University and lived a full and accomplished life. Over the years, she worked in a variety of roles, including bookkeeping, boat design, real estate and more. In her young years she developed a passion for photography and spent time modeling too, a reflection of her adventurous spirit. Her deep connection to life on the water led her to obtain her captain's license.

Of all the places life took her, the ocean held a special place in Betty's heart. Some of her most treasured years were spent commercial fishing alongside the love of her life, Dick. Together, they built a life of hard work, adventure, family, and lasting friendships. That legacy continues today, as all three of their sons, along with one grandson, continue the tradition of commercial fishing.

Betty was known for her class, grace, and beautiful welcoming personality. She had a way of making people feel comfortable, included, and cared for. She carried herself with warmth, strength, and elegance, leaving a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know her.

A devoted woman of faith, Betty was a longtime member of Sunrise Baptist Church, where her Bible studies and small groups served as an anchor in her life. Those gatherings gave her a place of friendship, encouragement, prayer, and spiritual growth, and remained an important source of connection and strength throughout the years.

Betty will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family, friends, church community, and all whose lives she touched.

A Memorial Service for Betty will be held on Saturday, June 13th from 1-3pm at the Bellingham Yacht Club, 2625 S Harbor Loop Dr, Bellingham.
