It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Steve Michael Dorsett.

While our hearts are broken by his loss, we find comfort in remembering the vibrant, unique, and selfless man he was. Steve carried a special energy that could brighten any room, and his sense of humor brought smiles to everyone around him. He had a beautiful and unique heart and a way of looking at life all his own. He put others first, and he left an unforgettable mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Steve was born in Reno, Nevada, on June 15, 1971, to Byron and Joyce Dorsett. He had an eighth grade education, a fact that never once slowed him down. After a very difficult childhood, Steve was on his own by the age of fourteen. He never gave up. At fifteen he started his first business, a landscaping company. At sixteen he set out on an extraordinary journey, riding his bicycle from Nevada to New York and then on to Washington State, where he made his home from the age of eighteen and remained for the next thirty five years.

Steve was an entrepreneur who loved owning his own businesses, which gave him the freedom to pursue what he cared about most, being outdoors and immersed in nature. Among his ventures were Pinnacle Building Supply, Take The Roads Less Travelled Fly Fishing and Outdoor Guide, and his most recent business, Pinnacle Building Solutions, through which he worked to bring the community together. Steve had a gift for talking to anyone. He made friends easily, dreamed up new ideas constantly, and was always building something new.

His passions were as wide ranging and adventurous as his spirit. He loved bicycling, fly fishing, golfing, scuba diving, hiking, backpacking, and wilderness photography. He was especially known for his deep love of backpacking, nature, and animals, particularly bears.

The mountains and forests were where Steve felt most at peace. He explored as far north as Alaska and held a special love for the Pacific Northwest and the Olympic Peninsula. The Pasayten Wilderness was one of his favorite places in the world, and it was there that he spent his final days.

Steve lived a life of courage, adventure, kindness, and freedom. He always wanted the people around him laughing and smiling, and he made sure that everyone in his company was having a good time. His energy, his brightness, his laughter, and his love for life and for the people he touched will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Steve was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Deborah Dorsett. He is survived by his life partner, Anna Tsiorenko; his sister, Melissa Felicelli; and his nieces, Sarah Felicelli, Rebecca Felicelli, and Jessica Dasher.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held for Steve on Thursday, August 6, at 4pm at Sliced, 70 Bellis Fair Parkway, Bellingham, Washington 98226.

Steve's Celebration of Life Walk will take place at the Thunder Basin Trailhead and Amphitheater, located in Colonial Creek South Campground near mile marker 130 on Highway 20, on Saturday, August 8, gathering at 10:00am.
