Donald L. Pavia

On Tuesday, April 15, 2025, Donald L Pavia passed away peacefully at home in the company of his family.

Born in Portland, Oregon on January 25, 1941 to Bill and Dorothy Pavia, he graduated from Reed College in Portland, Oregon and received his MS and PhD from Yale University. He did post-doctoral work at the University of Wisconsin Madison and taught Organic Chemistry at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington from 1970 to 2007.

A Renaissance man, Don enjoyed sailing, hiking, music, woodworking, railroad history and model railroading as well as photography.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife, of 51 years, Neva Jean, his sister Sharilyn, his three children, Morgan (Lorena), Kevin and Bronwyn, three grandchildren, Carmen, Karlie (mother Staci) and Chris, graduate school housemate and partner-in-shenanigans Craig Eckhardt, as well as numerous in-laws and outlaws.

A memorial/celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 21 from 2-4 pm in the Great Hall of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Bellingham.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pavia, Lampman, Kriz Scholarship fund at Western Washington University.
